The 2023 fantasy football playoffs are just around the corner. And whether you are a contender, pretender, or full-sender, the time is now to make dynasty trades. Let’s examine five players you should be targeting in Dynasty right now. 12/6/23
WR Tee Higgins (CIN)
Even though there are still five games to play, 2023 was a lost season for Tee Higgins. Through 8 games, Higgins’ 17-game pace of 773 receiving yards and 4 TDs would represent his worst season, by far. Marred by hamstring and ankle injuries, along with Burrow’s calf, Higgins didn’t do much to help his fantasy stock. Higgins still showed he can access elite ceiling games (28.9 points Week 2, 19 points Week 9). Higgins’ finish as the WR12 in fantasy ppg in 2021 seems like eons ago, but injuries have dampened his stats. Looking forward to 2024, the market favors Higgins exploring Free Agency and signing a 4-year, $64 million deal. There will be suitors for his services, such as the Panthers, Bears, and Chiefs. However, Higgins’ 2023 performance may not have priced himself out of a return to Cincinnati. Recently, Mike Williams, Chris Godwin, and Michael Gallup all re-upped as the WR2 for their teams at reasonable contracts.
Action: Buy Tee Higgins for 1.10 or later pick in SuperFlex. With a weak 2024 RB class, 5-6 1st-round WRs, and one elite TE, the tier break for a proven player like Higgins can not only provide a winning trade value but also reduce the risk of a busted rookie pick.
QB Anthony Richardson (IND)
The Calculus is simple. In his two healthy games, Richardson finished as the QB2 and QB4 overall. Those games included at least 200 passing yards, a passing TD, 40 rushing yards, and a rushing TD, leading to at least 22 fantasy points. Head Coach Shane Steichen, the former Offensive Coordinator for Jalen Hurts, uses Richardson in the same way— as a centerpiece of the Colts’ offense. While Richardson suffered a shoulder injury, there are no indications that it should limit him come 2024. Just like Jalen Hurts, Richardson should contend as the QB1 overall next season.
Action: Buy Anthony Richardson from the 1.02 or later in 2024 (SuperFlex). Consider a swap of Justin Herbert or Joe Burrow to acquire Richardson.
WR Jakobi Meyers (LV)
Jakobi Meyers is the new Tyler Lockett. Undervalued, underrated, and strong producer. Operating alongside Davante Adams, despite the tumult at Quarterback for the Raiders, Meyers has finished WR18 or better in six of his eleven games in 2023. Meyers just turned 27 and has quietly earned a 22% target share or better in each of his last 4 seasons. Whether the Raiders anoint Aiden O’Connell as the franchise QB remains to be seen, but Meyers has produced regardless of circumstance.
Action: Acquire Meyers for one of the following: Mid/Late ‘24 2nd, Jerry Jeudy, Gabriel Davis.
RB Tyjae Spears (TEN)
The fact that Derrick Henry is still mega-producing is good news for Spears. The Titans may have found franchise QB Will Levis, but the offense still runs through the running back. For the first time all season, Spears handled 20 touches in Week 13–with Derrick Henry evaluated for a concussion. A day-2 pick for the Titans in 2023, Spears has already established himself as an opportunity earner, even behind Henry. Spears has earned 4 or more targets in 8 of 12 games and had the top Juke Rate and Breakaway Run Rate, indicators of his speed and dynamism. Henry can be cut for less than $5 million in dead cap this offseason. While a renegotiation may be on the table for Henry, Spears already plays more than 50% of snaps in a majority of games even with Henry’s lead role. It’s only a matter of time before the guard changes.
Action: Buy Spears for one of Jaylen Warren, James Cook, a mid-2nd round pick, or Zach Charbonnet.
TE Luke Musgrave (GB)
Overshadowed by the immediate explosions of rookie TEs Sam LaPorta and Dalton Kincaid, Musgrave played admirably, earning 49+ receiving yards in 4 of 9 games where he played 60%+ snaps. Unfortunately, Musgrave suffered a lacerated kidney, which is costing him time with one of the most efficient QBs since Week 10: Jordan Love. Over his last 4 games, Love is Top-5 in PFF pass grade, NFL passer rating, Big Time Throw Rate, Passing Yards, and Passing TDs. With the emergence of Love, especially against tough defenses, Musgrave profiles as a Year 2 breakout candidate. Before the injury, Musgrave was Top-12 among TEs in Catch Rate, Yards Per Route Run, and average depth of target (min. 35 targets).
Action: Consider trading for Musgrave with any of these assets: Mid ‘24 2nd, Cole Kmet, Romeo Doubs, Jerry Jeudy.
